5.11. Transferring Retman data from a previous to new installation

Following are the steps for incorporating previous Retman data directories.

  1. The destination computer usually has a new working installation of Retention Manager.
  2. The data directories for Retention Manager are:
    1. sysdata
    2. userdata
  3. The data directory locations differ by installation type.  They are:
    1. Standalone: c:\ProgramData\IRCH\RETMAN4
    2. Network: IRCH\RETMAN4
  4. If the C:\ProgramData directory is not visible, do the following.
    1. Select the View tab in File Explorer.
    2. Click on the Options / Change folder and search options selection.
    3. On the Folder Options window, click on the View tab.
    4. On the View tab, set the following options in the Advanced settings window.
      1. (SELECT) Show hidden file, folders, or drives
      2. (UNSELECT) Hide extensions for known file types
      3. (SELECT) Launch folder windows in a separate process.

    5. Select OK to close the window.
    6. You should be able to see the c:\ProgramData directory.
  5. Retman should always be closed during this process.
  6. Copy the previous Retman data directories to a network share that is accessible to the new installation computer.
  7. Rename the existing data directories in the destination computer.
    1. sysdata to sysdata.org
    2. userdata to userdata.org
  8. Copy the previous Retman data directories to the appropriate destination location below.
    1. Standalone: c:\ProgramData\IRCH\RETMAN4
    2. Network: IRCH\RETMAN4
  9. Open Retman on the destination computer and verify all functions and data.
  10. Once function and data have been verified on the new computer, the new computer becomes the production installation.   The previous Retman installation should be archived and removed from access.
  11. The sysdata.org and userdata.org data directories can be archived from the new Retman installation after 4 weeks.
