22.1. Retention Manager and Future Development

Retention Manager is the flagship product of the software division of Information Requirements Clearinghouse.  It was initially released in the early 1990s as Retention!, a software product for the DOS operating system for developing record retention schedules with associated legal research.

The software has been reprogrammed several times to maintain compatibility with newer workstation and network operating systems.

The current version of the program is Retention Manager 3 was initially released in 2003 for the Windows 2000 and XP operating systems.  During the past several years, Microsoft has released Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Retention Manager 3 is compatible with Windows XP and 7.  Version 4 of the program has been in development for the past two years to maintain compatibility of the program with Windows 7, 8, and 10.

Due to realignment of internal resources, development for Retention Manager 4 has been suspended in order to focus IRCH programming resources on Retention Manager 3.

Current improvements for the Retention Manager 3 codebase are:

  1. program compatibility with Windows 7, 8, and 10
  2. updating/replacing program components as needed to improve compatibility
  3. replacing the BDE (Borland Database Engine)
  4. updating the installation software for the program

IRCH policy ensures that Retention Manager users with current support/update subscriptions will receive new software versions as upgrades for their existing installations.  Conversion routines will be included for existing Retention Manager data as data formats evolve.

This document will be updated as development progresses.  Please contact IRCH Technical Support if there are questions.  Thank you.
