3.4. Wizard Installation

Retention Wizard is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Vista and is available in the following Editions:

Retention Wizard is designed for installation on a single computer.

This procedure is for a new installation.  If you have an existing installation and want to keep your data, please contact IRCH Technical Support for assistance.

If you have an existing installation and do not want to save existing data, uninstall the software as described in the Uninstall section below.

To install Retention Wizard

  1. Installation is done using the Administrator profile or a user profile with local administrator rights.  Please check with your Helpdesk or IT Department if you have questions.
  2. Run the Wizard install program from the IRCH CD or the download location on your hard drive or network share.
    1. Use the Start | Run function or Windows Explorer to run the WIZARD.EXE in the \retman3 directory on the CD.
  3. At the Welcome screen click Next.
  4. At the License Agreement screen click I Agree to continue or I Do Not Agree to terminate the install.
  5. At the Registration screen:
    1. For the Trial version, leave the install codes fields blank and click Next to continue the installation.
    2. If you have purchased the Wizard, input your installation codes. (If the installation codes do not work, double check the codes and try again.  Contact IRCH Technical Support if this does not resolve the problem.)
  6. At the Program Group Manager screen, use the default name (recommended) or input a name of your choosing. 
  7. At the Ready to Install Screen click Next to continue.
  8. At the Borland Database Engine screen, use the default values and click Next.
  9. At the Desktop Shortcut screen, select Yes and click OK.
  10. At the MFC DLLs installation screen click Yes.  Reboot the computer if prompted.

Assign Permissions and Options
(IT Notes)

  1. (Required)Full control permissions are required for the following application directories for user profiles accessing the program:
    1. Standalone install (default directories) (Windows 7 32-bit)
      1. C:\Program Files\IRCH
      2. C:\Program Data\IRCH
    2. Standalone install (default directories) (Windows 7 64-bit)
      1. C:\Program Files (x86)\IRCH
      2. C:\Program Data\IRCH
    3. Standalone install (default directories) (Windows XP)
      1. C:\Program Files\IRCH
  2. (Required for Windows 7) Log into each user profile accessing the program and set the following Folder and search options:
    1. Open Windows Explorer / Organize / Folder and search options
    2. Select General tab.
    3. In the Advanced settings section, set Hidden files and folders to Show hidden files, folders and drives.
    4. Click OK to close.

Verify Edition of Retention Wizard

  1. Select the Administration tab.
  2. The following are listed in the Rights Management section:
    1. Edition
    2. Installation serial number
    3. Number of jurisdiction licenses.  Additional state/jurisdiction licenses can be purchased by contacting IRCH Marketing at 303-721-7500 x105 or sales@irch.com.
    4. NEW!  Legal Research Option– IRCH introduces a new Legal Research function enabling Wizard users to view, search, and print research citations.  Research is accessible by selected jurisdictions and citations linked to record series.
      This function is enabled through a purchased license code.  Please contact IRCH Marketing at sales@irch.com or 303-721-7500 x105 for assistance and information.

Uninstall Software

  1. Select one of the following:
    1. From the taskbar, select Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / Retention Wizard.
    2. From the taskbar, select Start / Program / Retention Wizard / Retention Wizard Uninstall.
  2. At the Select Uninstall Method screen, select Automatic and Next.
  3. At the Perform Uninstall screen select Finish.
  4. At the Remove Shared Component screen select Yes to All.
  5. The Uninstall window will close automatically when complete.

Data Backup

Save your retention schedule by backing up the following directory regularly:

C:\Program Files\IRCH\Wizard\Userdata (Windows XP)
C:\ProgramData\IRCH\Wizard\Userdata (Windows 7)
